A new business activity of Medical Translation was started: Medicweb

As we were being asked increasingly often to translate websites, we found that many clients wanted dynamic, self-administrated, economical websites.

This marked the beginning of our new service -  Med-Web. It is a special concept of content management for scientific societies, associations and institutes. For more information click www.medicweb.at

In response to our clients' queries and wishes we started to deliver lectures on Medical English.

The Executive Director of Medical Translation has several years of experience as a translator and reviewer. One of her primary purposes is to improve the language of published literature and to assist German-speaking individuals who wish to publish in the English language. The first lecture was held on 11 June 2002 and was attended by about 40 medical professionals interested in improving their English. 

Mrs. Sujata Wagner (with a Master's Degree from the University of Vienna) disclosed several intricate aspects of the English language. To do justice to the rather advanced level of English of her public, she focused on various details of the language, which make biomedical publications fluent and readable. The items collected by Mrs. Wagner orginated from her vast fund of experience as an editor and translator - one would hardly find them in a dictionary or a grammar book. They comprise those aspects which make the difference between good and poor Medical English. 

Prior to the lecture the attendees were questioned as to their topics of interest. The lecture was designed to focus on the following points:

• Which common errors does one make when writing in English?
• How does one deal with reviewers' criticisms?
• How does one write briefly and succinctly?
• What should one be careful about?
• How long should/may a paragraph be?

The second lecture on Medical English was held on 29 November 2002 for radiographers. It was sponsored by Gerot Company and organized by Mrs. Helga Fischer from the University Department of Radiology, Vienna.
